RUSSIA'S FIRST EVER LNG PLANT IS BEING BUILT IN SAKHALIN
YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, January 24 (RIA Novosti's Pyotr Tsyrendorzhiyev) - Russia's first ever plant to liquefy natural gas has been 55% completed in Sakhalin, construction manager Hilary Mercer told reporters on Monday. Ms. Mercer said the construction of a temporary wharf for unloading cargoes and equipment to be delivered to Sakhalin by sea was being completed. Ms. Mercer added companies from Russia, Japan, the U.S., Great Britain, Ireland, Turkey, and South Korea were being involved in the project. The plant's processing line will be commissioned in July 2007 according to the schedule for the Sakhalin-2 project's second phase, while the first production batch of the environmentally clean fuel will be shipped to consumers as early as in November 2007. The second phase of the construction project will be completed in February 2008. Both lines' capacity will be 9.6 million tons of LNG a year.
